Without much grooming, the natural beauty of these dogs is not evident. Grooming includes regular brushing and bathing; show animals need special professional grooming and clipping, which is rather expensive. Dogs of this breed are naturally very active; they are happiest when involved in hunting, agility and other dog sports. These dogs do well with considerate children and other pets. Without much interaction with the family, these dogs tend to develop bad habits. Profound knowledge on the breed helps avoid most typical problems with training and housebreaking.

The dogs of this breed seem to be ideal pets, but they have their own disadvantages that make their owners abandon them. These dogs require much place in the house; a large fenced yard is a must. To be in a good form, these dogs should be trained regularly. The dogs of this breed shed much all through the year and lose almost all their hair twice a year. The breed is prone to various diseases: allergies, hip dysplasia, and eye and heart problems. These dogs make poor guardians, as they are very friendly.
