There are two main varieties within the breed. American type retains the standard of hunting hounds. They are lanky, possessing a tall body and long limbs. They usually come in darker colors compared to the English type. English variety of the breed has a longer, light-cream colored coat, which is almost white. A few white hairs on the chest are acceptable, which is a fault in the American type. These hounds are big-boned, short, with a square head and muzzle. This type sheds rarely.
